I had been with Dr. Stein for
several years when he informed his patients that he was
starting a new practice. I was very skeptical when I learned
that I would need to pay a retainer fee for medical expenses
rather than having my insurance carrier billed directly.
Because I trusted Dr. Stein and was comfortable with the
medical care he provides I joined his new Independent
Personal Medical Care practice. A good decision.
The quality of care I receive and the convenience of the
office schedule easily offset the retainer fee, most of
which I will recover by submitting the invoices I receive to
my insurance carrier.
Our time is precious; Dr Stein knows this and sets his
schedule based on the needs of his patients. Office visits
are scheduled far enough apart that I never feel hurried
through the session and no one is left stranded in the
waiting room. Several times I have been accommodated during
the evenings and weekends where I would have otherwise gone
to the emergency room.
I’ve been in the new practice for a year now. Rather than
being a patient in a practice I feel like I have hired a
personal physician

This
practice is a throwback to the old days of health care. I am 32
years old and have Becker type Muscular Dystrophy. I work a full
time job from a manual wheel chair. The primary care I receive is
outstanding. A doctor that makes house calls any time of the day or
night without fail? A doctor who will open his office on a Saturday
because it is convenient for me? A Doctor who never keeps me waiting
in his office? This is the future of primary health care.
I am excited to be a part of this practice, and truly hope more
people become aware of it, and how it works. It is about people and
doctors taking back the healthcare system from the insurance
companies, and it is about more of a patient-doctor personal
connection.
Having Dr Stein know my body and health as well as I do is a giant
weight off my shoulders. He is an advocate and a doctor, but with
this innovative way he is now practicing medicine, I am proud to
also call him my friend.

Roger,
Joseph, Matthew and I all feel so comfortable with your new office.
It is so nice not to feel rushed, not having to feel herded like
cattle and not being crowded in a waiting area. To be able to spend
quality time with you to discuss personal family information as well
as reasons for that particular doctor visit is comforting and
assuring. We also like the way everything is done in your office.
Not having to make several trips to various labs to have blood work
drawn or whatever just makes it easier and our life less hectic.
I personally like not having to deal with insurance companies and
not having to come up with co-payments at each visit. The fact that
we can reach YOU at any time of the day or night without going
through an answering service is quite comforting.
We wish to thank you and Gena for creating a place for your practice
where the environment is comfortable, relaxed and amiable. It is
such a comfortable atmosphere that the boys actually don’t have
issues with seeing the doctor.

My
husband and I have been patients of Dr. Stein’s for many years as
were our children before they married and moved from the area. We
have always felt well cared for (even in unanticipated emergency
situations which proved life threatening) but as we experience with
“Dr. Mike” the paradigm shifts of his groundbreaking efforts to
familiarize –literally- his practice, we feel both cared for and
cared about. Perhaps because my husband’s father was a family
physician and/or perhaps because of the fast-paced, high stress
times we live in, we value highly the knowledge that our doctor may
be reached at any time, from any place and will, in fact, make a
house call should that comfort be required. As patients (but first,
as people), we value knowing that a highly educated medical
professional whom we trust, and- significantly- whom we are certain
also trusts us is a major player on our “team”.

Whenever I had occasion to visit the doctor’s office I felt “that
tension” that comes from having to arrive early and wait in a
crowded room well past my scheduled appointment time. Then, when my
turn came to see the doctor he was too rushed to answer all of my
questions.
When Dr Stein announced he was going to start a new kind of practice
it was obvious to me that this was the type of practice I was
looking for. I no longer feel rush when we are discussing my health,
and I feel the doctor is really taking the time to hear what I am
describing about my medical condition.
I now feel much more relaxed at the doctor’s office.

I have been a patient of Dr. Stein for
many years now. My family and I are now enrolled in his innovative,
yet “classic”, approach to patient care. Though we have always been
most pleased with both the care and level of service with which Dr.
Stein handled our family’s health care needs, we couldn’t be more
pleased with the new arrangement. Appointments are attainable on
short notice. Service is exemplary. Costs are held in check.
Emergency care is just a cell phone call away, 24 hours a day. He
will even make house calls if needed.
I recently had a medical emergency on Thanksgiving Day. Aren’t
holidays always when some kind of emergency or other ailment seems
to occur? Dr Stein left his family to stitch my very deep gash. I
was even able to make it in time watch a football game that morning.
Under any HMO or PPO plan, I would have spent the whole day in a
hospital emergency room…with an on call doctor I wouldn’t know.
Three cheers to Dr. Stein for having the courage to challenge the
“system”.

Hello, my name is Michelle Jett
Roberts. I am not sure I have the right Dr. if not please accept my
apologies.
Twenty one years ago in a small town in Alabama (Haleyville) Dr
Stein was my Dr. I was sixteen, pregnant and very sick Without his
knowledge and kindness I could have died and and lost the life of my
unborn child. I remember a lot of nights of him sitting at my
bedside trying to come up with how to treat me. He was always there
bringing in anything he thought I might need or be able to eat. At
four months I gave consent to have an abortion at this point it was
becoming fatal.
Just hours before they were to do the procedure Dr Stein came
rushing in with new med's for me to try with no promises of what
might be wrong with the baby (birth defects). It worked !! Four and
a half months later I gave birth to a baby boy. He was slightly sick
but he was alive thanks to Dr Stein.
Shortly after giving birth to my son Dr Stein left and I never got
to thank him for his kindness. If we only still had Dr's like this .
So in closing if this is the right Dr Stein THANK YOU from the
bottom of my heart. This baby is now a twenty year old healthy man
thanks to you.
Sincerely,
Michelle Jett Roberts
(Dr Stein worked in
Alabama in the public health service from 1984 through 1987)
I have been a patient of the Rockingham
Independent Medical Co-op for two and one half years. I am 69 years
old, active and in good health. Prior to enrolling with Doc Stein, I
had a supplemental plan from A.A.R.P. in addition to Medicare. The
premium for the supplemental plan was $2200.00 annually.
Joining this plan has saved me $1200.00 per year.
Other benefits include:
Appointments that are scheduled promptly.
I never have to sit for more than 5 minutes in the waiting room.
I don’t feel rushed.
Doc Stein is personable and thoroughly explains everything.
The receptionists are friendly and efficient.
Referrals are promptly scheduled.
I have had many primary care physicians over the years, but this
plan, with Doctor Stein is far and away the most comfortable (and
affordable) situation I’ve had. I highly recommend it.

I have been suffering from abdominal
pain for over seven years now. I have had the “million dollar
workup”, seen some of the “finest” physicians in Boston, been to the
Lahey Clinic and no one could help me.
I have had two liver biopsies, numerous endoscopies, two spinal
taps, and 9 MRIs. My gall bladder has been removed and to top it
off, endoscopic bile duct surgery gave me severe pancreatitis which
landed me in the hospital for 4 weeks and almost killed me.
By early 2006 I was down and out with my fifth primary care
physician. She was great, but my case seemed to be too complicated
for her and I could sense I was burning her out. Then one day, a
business colleague of mine told me about Dr Stein’s practice. I
called and made an appointment for a “free” consultation.
When I walked into his well appointed office, I was greeted by Dr
Mike’s wife Gena. In the past, I would get the “white coat syndrome”
and I could feel my blood pressure rise. I would look around the
waiting room and see a half dozen patients waiting for their 12
minutes with the doctor! This office atmosphere and the people in it
were much different.
I felt immediately at ease, a sense of security.
Dr Stein came out to greet me and escort me back to his office. As I
walked in I noticed his single exam room beside his office. Dr Stein
ask me his first question, “How can I help you.” After listening to
me ramble on for 40 minutes and after asking a few questions, he
said to me “Joe I do not think you have a GI or organ related
problem and I believe I can help you.” He took me back into his exam
room and injected a local anesthetic under two of my ribs. The pain
disappeared for the first time in seven years! It turned out I have
a nerve condition called intercostal neuritis.
I immediately joined the practice. Dr Mike was the first doctor (IN
MY LIFE TIME) to really take the time to listen. I now have a
take-charge physician who really cares and can help me move on to a
better quality of life for my second 50 years on this earth.

I am a 41
year old male with a blown out disc in my neck. For many years I
have suffered from unexplained pain.
My company recently
joined a PPO insurance plan that allowed my family of 6 to use Dr
Stein. He is the first doctor I have ever felt comfortable with.
Within a few visits he determined the cause of my neck and left arm
pain was a severely degenerated disc in my neck. We assume it was
damaged some 16 years earlier in a motorcycle accident. After
failing medical treatment he referred me to one of the finest
neurosurgeons at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. The surgeon
agreed with Dr Stein that a surgical approach was going to be
necessary. The old procedure is called a spinal fusion. However, a
new procedure, artificial disc implantation which has been FDA
approved and proven to have superior results to the old fusion
surgery was recommended due to my young age. This is where the fun
starts and the insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of
Massachusetts starts practicing medicine for me. They refused to
authorize the surgery. We went through the normal appeals process
which was like running into a brick wall. Dr Stein finally said it
was time to twist their arm and called a reporter he new at a large
newspaper. She interviewed both Dr Stein and myself at Dr Stein’s
office and was given consent to discuss the case with BCBS. They
went into immediate damage control. The end result is that with the
help of their public relations director the surgery was approved.
I really believe
the only reason I had my surgery was due to the effort of my
“personal doctor”. Most other doctors would have said “oh well, you
have to do what they tell you” and then move on and forget about me.
Dr Stein, due to the nature of his practice, had the time and was
willing to fight for my best interests.
Dr Stein, much
thanks for all your help

Dr. Michael
Stein had been our primary care physician for nine years in Salem,
NH. When he announced the opening of his new private practice, we
immediately joined.
Personal contact,
professionalism, a comfortable, clean and pleasant office atmosphere
and ample time for appointments exist constantly. Dr. Stein
demonstrates a sincere interest and concern for the well-being of
his patients.
Availability is
truly unique- he can be contacted at any time by cell phone and
usually answers the phone---or will return your call within 15
minutes. Lab tests are drawn at his office which eliminates time,
effort and energy traveling to other locations as well as cost
concerns. (All lab tests are performed by Labcorp)
Dr Stein and Gena
are extremely helpful with reference to prescriptions, appointments
and all health matters and are always available in assisting and
complying with our requests in a timely manner. Unnecessary tests,
x-rays and hospitalizations are avoided. However, referrals are
provided with the finest specialists as needed.
In our case,
serious medical conditions have persisted and we feel fortunate and
grateful to have received the utmost quality personal care from Dr
Stein and Gena.
Our sincere
heartfelt appreciation and thanks,
Jim and Sara
